UK’s scientific and education experts have united with Miss USA 2016 Deshauna Barber and Internationally-acclaimed hairstylist, Vernon Francois for the inaugural World Afro Day event. Children and young people from all backgrounds will learn about afro hair, through the themes of science, self-esteem and society.
Empowerment in Education
Our goal is to encourage people to understand the uniqueness of afro hair and ultimately help the world to appreciate difference as a positive characteristic and not a negative one. Ultimately, we’re bringing together children from all backgrounds to appreciate the wonder of hair and feel empowered.

Alongside the World Record Lesson there will be author Tola Okogwu – Daddy do My Hair? Music performances, Spoken Word and Q&As.
There will be a speech by Miss USA 2016 Deshauna Barber who made headlines for wearing her natural hair to the Miss USA 2017 pagent, televised worldwide. She has gone from relaxing her hair at eight years old to a global afro advocate!
Vernon Francois’s mission is to empower a generation with the knowledge and confidence to unlock the potential of their hair’s true texture: kinky, coily, curly or wavy.
Empowerment in Celebration
Our goal is to encourage people from all backgrounds to understand the uniqueness of afro hair and help the world to appreciate difference as a positive characteristic and not a negative one. Ultimately, we’re bringing people together to appreciate the wonder of afro hair and empower those who are born with it.
This is your chance to be a part of history as we begin this education movement towards a world that values and appreciates our natural hair and beauty. A world with no barriers to success, based on our original identity. With your support we can do it!
